Climate

The climate of Deception Island is polar maritime. The mean annual air temperature is -3°C. Temperatures range from +11°C to -28°C. The mean annual equivalent of rainfall is 500mm. Prevailing winds are from the northeast and west.

Extreme micro-climates exist around steaming fumaroles and geothermally heated water where temperatures of 70°C have been recorded.
